In his recent letter Jeff Durbin suggested that America’s so-called “Founding Fathers” were a group of fervent Christians.
Unless my 83-year-old memory is leading me astray, I recall both hearing and reading that at least several of the biggest names among that group were in fact deists.
My dog-eared copy of Webster’s Desk Dictionary defines deism as follows: Belief in the existence of a God on the evidence of reason and nature, with rejection of supernatural revelation.
