Rummage sale

The East Verde Park Annual Rummage Sale at the clubhouse on Detroit is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11; and from 7 a.m. to noon, Sunday, June 12.

East Verde Park is five miles north of Payson off of Highway 87.

Community Breakfast

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church is hosting a community breakfast from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., Friday, June 10 at 407 W. Wade Lane. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, coffee and juice.

Rim Country residents and visitors are invited to join us for food and fellowship. A free will offering will be accepted.

The church will host a breakfast on the second Friday of every month from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

Marketplace Sale

The Marketplace Sale is coming June 10 and June 11. The annual event is an upscale garage sale sponsored by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church to benefit St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank. The Marketplace Sale will be at the Bashas’ Center next to Payson Jewelers.

Hundreds of items, in excellent condition, will be for sale during the two-day event, including furniture and household items. No clothing items or books will be sold. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

Deadline to reserve benefit barbecue tickets

The Northern Gila County Historical Society will have its annual benefit barbecue dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 11 at the Rim Country Museum.

No tickets will be sold at the door, reservations must be made by 4 p.m. today, Friday, June 10, by calling (928) 474-3483, so there will be enough food. The tickets can be paid for at the door, but not purchased. The tickets are $15 each.

Register for AARP safe driving class today

There will be an AARP driving safety class from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 11. Register now at (928) 472-9290.

The class will be at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Cutoff for concert tickets now

Good Samaritan Society-Majestic Rim will have a concert of music from the 1940s by The Sonoran Swing Band at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 17.

Formal attire is suggested. There will be valet parking, a red carpet, photos available for purchase, hors d’oevres and dancing.

Tickets are just $8 per person or $12 per couple and a limited number are available. Proceeds will benefit the Payson Senior Center’s transportation program. The cutoff to purchase tickets is Friday, June 10.

The Majestic Rim is at 310 E. Tyler Parkway, Payson.

Pine packing weekend with fun, food and quilts

A weekend of finely crafted quilted art and a multitude of delicious strawberry delights await in Pine this weekend.

It is the 15th Annual Strawberry Patchers Quilt Show and 21st Annual Strawberry Festival. The events will be at the Pine Community Center in the center of the mountain hamlet just 15 miles north of Payson.

The quilt show is Friday, June 10, Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 in the Cultural Hall at the Community Center.

The show is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is just $2.

Guests who bring a can/package of non-perishable food to the quilt show will be entered into the drawing for a comfort quilt to be held June 12.

The Strawberry Festival is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 11 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 12. Admission is free.

The 21st Annual Strawberry Festival will be on the grounds of the Pine Community Center. Guests can visit arts and crafts vendors; enjoy all kinds of food, plus a wide selection of strawberry treats. There will be music and special activities for children.

Payson Sprint Triathlon

Wannabe Iron Men (women and youth) are encouraged to register as soon as possible for the Payson Spring Triathlon Tribute to Cynthia Pool, which takes place Saturday, June 11. A $25 late fee will be added to the entry costs for those signing up after June 7. The fees are $50 per adult and $75 for teams.

Check-in starts at 5:45 a.m. at Taylor Pool in North Rumsey Park, 504 N. McLane Road, the race will begin at 7 a.m.

The swim is 500 yards (20 lengths), the bike course is 14 miles and known as “The Beast,” and the run is a 5k.

Athletes as young as 15 are invited to compete.

Pancake Breakfast

A Pancake Breakfast and Yard Sale at the Payson Senior Center on Main Street will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, June 11.

The breakfast menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, juice and coffee, all for just $4. Add biscuits and gravy for just $1 more.

Proceeds will benefit the Senior Center’s meals on wheels and transportation programs.

The yard sale will take place in the parking lot sale with inventory from the Senior Center Thrift Store. It is a chance to make a deal for bargains. The sale is from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, June 11 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, June 12 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. 

Cub Scout Yard Sale

Payson area Cub Scouts are conducting their annual fund-raising yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 11. The sale will be held on the Mount Cross Lutheran Church property, at “the point,” on the corner opposite Safeway.

Please stop by and support the local Cub Scouts with a purchase or a donation. Items for the sale may also be donated. To donate goods for sale, contact Gloria McClurkan at (928) 978-1341.

Second Saturday Shop Hop

The monthly Second Saturday Shop Hop is the afternoon of Saturday, June 11, with a number of shops on Highway 87 and Hardscrabble Mesa Road hosting special events.

One of those is Myra’s Gallery, 3502 N. Highway 87, Pine. The gallery has the work of 23 artists on display and will be featuring four of them throughout the day, Saturday, June 11: Angie Cockle, Jack Greenshield, Matalyn Gardner; and the late Joy Layson.

As part of the gallery’s Second Saturday Shop Hop, there will also be live music from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. provided by Trouble in Paradise.

Concert Under the Stars

The second of the Concert Under the Stars series is at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 11 at the amphitheater area of Green Valley Park in Payson.

The free concert will feature the Jeff Hunt Band presenting an upbeat, positive and fun evening of music that will have influences from Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, John Mayer and others.
