The Rim Area Gardeners will host their annual Mogollon Garden Tour Saturday, June 25. Tickets are $5 per person and can be bought at the Pine and Payson libraries, the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, at Ace Hardware, Plant Fair Nursery and Payson Jewelers. There will be six gardens featured in the tour and each will have a guest artist or musician on site.

The Lunafest Short Films — by, for and about women — is at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 21 at the Rim Club, 300 Clubhouse, Payson.

There will be no-host cocktails, dinner and silent auction from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed the films at 7 p.m.

Forum for university campus

The Volunteer Planning Committee for a University Campus in Payson invites Payson residents to attend one of two forums regarding the current status and future plans for a university campus in Payson.

The first of these informative forums will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday, June 23 at Gila Community College, Room 404. The second forum will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, June 27 at the Payson High School Auditorium.

Mayor Kenny Evans will be the featured speaker. He will focus on plans for Phase I and highlight the planning process for Phase II. Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions and offer suggestions related to the future campus.

Mother-Daughter Fitness

Mothers and daughters, grab your walking shoes and come down to Green Valley Park Thursday, June 23 for a fitness walk.

Registration is from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. near the band shell.

Eastern Arizona Health Education Center and Mogollon Health Alliance staff will hand out free pedometers and teach how to set the stride. Gila Community College student nurses will be on-site to chart blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels before the warm-up, which is from 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m., and during cool down, from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Stretch-out and cool-down with personal fitness trainers Casandra Stouder and Nina Ray before and after the walk. Christy Walton, certified Zumba® instructor, will be at the park at 6:30 p.m. to connect the benefits of music with exercise. Then there will be a presentation at 6:45 p.m. on “Fit Women Are Smart” and the prizes.

Don’t have a mom or daughter to walk with? Walk with the group anyway.

The June 23 walk is a special event, but there will be walks the next four Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., through July 21, starting from the band shell area.

The Mother Daughter Fitness – Get It Together Walk is made possible through a grant from the Office of Women’s Health and a collaborative effort with Eastern Area Health Education Center and Mogollon Health Alliance.

The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening for “Key Ingredients,” the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit at Payson Public Library, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, June 24. The evening will feature the exhibit and refreshments. Reservations are required, call (928) 474-4515.
