RCLP presents Movie Classics
Are you a sucker for old movies? Join the Rim Country Literacy Program for three afternoons of old-fashioned fun.
The Rim Country Literacy Program (RCLP) is presenting “Hooray for Hollywood” — a series of three classic movie afternoons scheduled for Sundays this summer at the Senior Center, 514 W. Main St. The price for the series ticket is $25. Tickets for individual afternoons may be purchased for $10 each, as space provides.
Features scheduled are Bringing Up Baby, June 26; High Noon, July 24; and An Afternoon of Comedy featuring WC Fields, the Three Stooges, Groucho Marx, and George Burns and Gracie Allen, Aug. 21.
Doors open at 2 p.m. Either cartoons or a short will be shown at 2:30 p.m. and the feature will begin at 3 p.m.
Popcorn and a drink are included in the ticket price. Movie candy will be for sale. All proceeds will benefit the programs offered by RCLP.
Tickets are now on sale. They are available at the Senior Center, the Payson Roundup, RCLP offices and from RCLP volunteers.

Challenger Sports British Soccer camps debuted in Payson in 2008 and have returned each summer since to provide Rim Country youth a glimpse of what the sport is like in the United Kingdom.
Due to the success and popularity of past camps, Challenger is returning again to Payson to offer another camp series open to youth, 3 to 18 years old.
The Rim Country camps, which are co-hosted by the Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, will be June 27 to July 10. Both are being held in Rumsey Park.
The CSBS camps feature several skill/age sessions including First Kicks, Mini-Soccer, five Half-Day Development sessions and a Full-Day Development session.
First Kicks is open to aspiring players 3 to 4 years old.
Campers are introduced to the game basics through fundamental activities, games and fun soccer challenges. The camps are an hour long for five days. Parents are encouraged to join in to help their children.
The Mini-Soccer, for 4- to 5-year-olds, has fun games, competitions and skill-building activities used to help develop budding players. The sessions last for 1-1/2 hours for five days.
In the Half-Day Player Development Camps, emphasis is placed on mastery of core soccer techniques through individual and small group practices and coached games. The sessions are three hours a day for five days.
Full-Day Player Development Camp is aimed at youths 8 to 18. They are more advanced session for serious players. The curriculum includes game-related techniques, tactical development and coached match play. The sessions run for six hours daily for five days.
The Payson schedule is:
• First Kicks — 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
• Mini Soccer — 10:30 a.m. to noon.
• Half Day — Two are held 9 a.m. to noon and three from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Full Day — 9 a.m. to noon; 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The fees are $79 for First Kicks, $94 for Mini-Soccer, $124 for Half Day and $171 for Full Day camp.

The Payson Pro Rodeo is presenting a Chili Cook-Off at the Payson Event Center Sunday, July 3.
This is a CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) sponsored event with both a professional and a local People’s Choice division. The pro contest requires at $15 entry fee, while the local contest has a $10 entry fee.
Admission is $4 per person, which includes a tasting cup and spoon, plus a ballot to vote for the People’s Choice contestants.
Information for entry into the cook-off is at the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce office or call (928) 951-0731. Admission tickets may be purchased at the chamber in advance or at the event center gates the day of the competition.
Book sale, quilt raffle
The Pine Library Friends will have a Fourth of July book sale and quilt raffle.
The quilt is a donation from the family of the late Patricia Sogan. It is a queen-sized quilt with an appraised value of $1,975, certified by the Arizona Quilt Society. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
The book sale will be in the library’s activity room, off Hwy. 87 and Randall Drive, behind the Pine Community Center. The hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, July 1; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 2 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 3.

Scholarship Fund Dance
The Payson Pro Rodeo Committee is holding its annual Scholarship Fund Dance at the Ox Bow Saloon Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2. The dance features the Landon Shill Band.
