The MARCA Amateur Radio Club is again participating in the annual ARRL (American Radio Relay League) Field Day Event.
The field day event is always held the 4th full weekend in June, this year it is June 25 and 26 and tests the amateur radio community emergency preparedness as well as provides an opportunity to enjoy the hobby of amateur radio. The group will set up and operate field radio stations to contact other hams throughout the U.S. and Canada over a 24-hour period. The objective of the event is to make the highest number of contacts during the contest period.
This event allows U.S. and Canadian amateur radio operators and radio clubs to practice and demonstrate their proficiency to setup and operate emergency radio communication stations. The ARRL National Field organization estimates that more than 30,000 hams participated in the 2010 field day.
It starts at 11 a.m. on June 25 and will last for 24 hours. During the event, the amateur radio operators expect to contact more than 1,000 field day amateur radio stations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The group will be at Gentry Group Campground in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The event is open to the public. This location is just south of Highway 260 approximately 35 miles east of Payson. Turn right (south) on the road to Black Canyon Lake (mile marker 291) and go approximately 4.5 miles to the Gentry lookout tower and Gentry Group Campground.
