Independence Day Parade Will Be Saturday, July 2

This is the last reminder for the Independence Parade scheduled for Saturday, July 2.

John Mitchell is the originator and grand marshal of the Independence Day Parade, so if you have any questions you may reach him at 602-478-4729.

We will line up in front of the Tall Pines Market at 12:45 p.m. and the parade will start promptly at 1 p.m.

The parade will conclude at the Landmark on the Creek where there will be free ice cream for the kids. So, come on out and decorate your quads, golf carts, trucks, ATVs and bikes or you can get some exercise in and walk with your pet on a leash.

As many of you know, the Wallow Fire has unfortunately taken the title as Arizona’s largest wildfire in state history.

It is still not fully contained and has enveloped over a half-million acres of beautiful forest.

The Christopher-Kohl’s Fire Department did its part to lend a hand. CKFD sent two fire engines and a water tanker up there for 14 days to help out.

They were just released at the end of last week and they now have one engine on the Monument Fire to help out there as well.

In speaking with the people at the fire department, they said “Just tell people to please be firewise. It is obviously quite serious.” Obviously, the Forest Service is also taking big measures to try and ensure the safety of our forests, including parts of the Tonto Forest being closed down temporarily.

As always, I do need your help with content and stories!

For anyone wanting to submit information from the Christopher Creek area for inclusion in our weekly article, please e-mail me at: Any submitted pictures must be full-size (typically around 1MB per picture). The cutoff time for inclusion in Friday’s article is close of business on Monday.

Thanks again for reading the column.
