Wow, what a fun evening! I didn’t really understand what this was going to be until the kids got into it. Just remember, since they don’t have to actually sing, it’s all about the drama. Basically, they are doing one-act plays with music as the medium.
The audience choice was a hoot — a version of the girl-band hit “Don’t You Wish Your Girlfriend was Hot Like Me.” This number was also awarded second place in the comedy division by the judges. The first place winners in both comedy and traditional categories were right on. The comedy number was a take on the Muppets and the traditional winner was a heart-wrenching rendition of “Memories.”
And let’s not forget the Jr. Thespians from the middle school who kicked off the event with a high-energy “Be Our Guest” from “Beauty and the Beast.”
The fact that all of the winners received an envelope of money was also a nice touch, providing a concrete reward to the kids for their work.
Finally I want to thank all of the townspeople who so generously donated items for the silent auction. This is a great fund-raiser.
So if you didn’t get tickets for the event this year, make sure you do next time. I guarantee you won’t regret it. And if you did get tickets — buy more next year. Bring friends and family; that auditorium should be packed for this event!
