Payson Town Council Needs To Keep It Simple

Maybe the town council should take their stiff neck bow ties off, kick back in their soft chairs and remember the good old days when we first started out playing in old dirt lots.

Most of those old dirt lots have given way to the progress of developers. So now we have an “event center” to replace them, except the city wants to turn that into a dollar.

The city isn’t going to fix any budget shortfall by charging for the use of this great meeting place. Event centers are places where we can enjoy the fruits of our labor, help keep families doing things together, and carrying on the good old American way we have somehow lost for the most part.

If we use the center, carry our own trash away, and in general, take care of it, why try to turn it into another part of the “progress of man”?

Let’s keep it simple and down to earth, where most of us live with both feet on the ground, not in a city bought La-Z-Boy recliner.

If the town would quit spending money putting out red cones on Main St. on First Friday they could us the money for something else. Not charge for the use of the event center maybe. I was told that it cost $600. for employees and equipment to put the cones out. I do not know if that is the true figure, but I don't think they should be doing it anyway if it was only a $100. What a waste for something that really isn't needed. It messes up traffic and there are sidewalks for people to walk on.

It would seem based on current usage and "events", the equestrian and rodeo groups seem to believe it is there for their sole use and should be free. How about some other types of events on a regular basis that might actually generate some income. Maybe a monthly flee market? The event center is for the whole town, not just the cowboy crowd.
