A time of renewal

Spring is just around the corner and already you can see a renewal rustling beneath the dead of winter.

Women of the Rim Country have a chance to renew themselves with the 13th Annual Women’s Healtth and Wellness Forum — “It’s Not Rocket Science” — from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 12 at Payson High School. Registration is only $10 and scholarships are available to help cover the cost.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, March 12 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., it is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, March 13 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. it is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. Properly bagged Yellow Starthistle, or other listed noxious weed species will also be accepted and will be burned. No household garbage, construction debris, or other items will be accepted.

RPAP brush pits are intended for the use of private citizens who are working to clear their properties for wildfire risk reduction and to create defensible space around their homes. They are not intended for commercial use, and use by commercial haulers is prohibited.

Kite day

Karen’s Kare Bears is planning a Kite Day at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 12 at Green Valley Park. For more information, call (928) 474-5273. 

Boost your brain, boost creativity

Learn how to increase creativity with brain optimization techniques taught by Cristina Whitehawk from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 12 at the East West Exchange, 100 N. Tonto Street, Payson.

This Phoenix author and educator will share simple movements geared to integrate body and mind. She also will sign her book, “Doorways to Daily Soul Nurturance: A Book for Daily Inspirational Focus,” and talk about how she developed this unique calendar-book.

The program is sponsored by Arizona Press Women and is open to the public free of charge.

Benefit spaghetti dinner

A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held for the Dane Hendrix Family from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 12 at the Moose Lodge, 4211 E. Highway 260 in Star Valley.

A $6 donation is requested for the dinner.  A silent auction will also be held. Auction bids will close at 4 p.m.

Longhorn Cheer Clinic

Youngsters interested in learning about cheerleading are invited to participate in a Spring Break Longhorn Cheer Clinic from Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 18 at Frontier Elementary School.

Led by the Payson Longhorn cheerleaders, participants will learn such techniques as dance moves, stunts and actual cheers.

The program for elementary age youngsters will be from 9 a.m. to noon; for those middle school age participants, the program will be from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The cost is $50 per child or $40 per child if a participant signs up with a friend or family member.

Area churches bring inspirational author to town

Terry Hershey, inspirational speaker, humorist and author of “Soul Gardening” and nine other books, who has been featured on The Hallmark Channel, CNN, PBS and NPR, will present two programs in Payson Monday, March 14.

He will speak between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 1000 N. Easy St., Payson, and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 200 E. Tyler Parkway, Payson.

Hershey holds a mirror up to fast-forward, disconnected lives and offers the wisdom of taking an intentional moment to regain personal and spiritual balance.

Chili’s Give Back Night

The Chili’s restaurant in Payson is hosting a Give Back Night Monday, March 14 to benefit the music programs in Payson schools.

With each flyer presented by a guest or party of guests on Monday, March 14, Chili’s will donate 10 percent of that sale to support band, choir, jazz band and guitar.

Flyers will be available at the Rim Country Middle School office and the office of the Payson Roundup.
