Rim Country Readers to meet Wednesday

The Rim Country Readers will meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 16 at the Payson Public Library to discuss Dave Eggers book, “Zeitoun.”

Mayor Evans to address Democratic Club

The Democratic Club of Northern Gila County will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 16 at the Payson Public Library meeting room, 328 N. McLane Road.

The guest speaker will be Payson Mayor Kenny Evans. He will be reviewing the accomplishments of the town council of the past four years and suggesting things that Democrats can do to help in the future.

There will be a report from the by-laws committee for possible action. There will be reports from each of the officers and leaders of the Democratic Women’s Club and Gila County Chair Chris Tilley. There may also be a presentation from Secretary Lil Semoff regarding a children’s booklet she would like to donate for auction at the next DCNGC meeting. 

Membership dues are only $5 annually and can be collected at this meeting.

Payson Art League meeting is March 15

David Sanchez will be the guest speaker at the March Payson Art League meeting. Sanchez is one of PAL’s newest members and is the new ceramics instructor at Gila Community College in Payson.

Meet the artist March 15 at the Payson Art League’s monthly meeting, held at the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road.

Social time and the show and share session is at 6:30 p.m. The business meeting and presentation are at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Rim Country Garrett Retirees to meet

Rim Country Garrett Retirees will meet March 17 at Tiny’s. Social hour begins at 11 a.m., with lunch from the menu served at noon. Friends and Honeywell retirees are welcome. For more information call Merie at (928) 474-6011.

Moose Lodge events

The Women of the Moose meet at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the lodge.

The lodge has a Thursday Fish Fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekly dinner specials are available.

Lenten services

Shepherd of the Pines

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, will celebrate mid-week Lenten services Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. from March 16 through April 20.

Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its second Lenten service during Lent at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 16. Pastor Sweet will be speaking on “Caiaphas, the Schemer,” from John 11:47-53. A free soup supper will be held at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Rock of Ages is located at the corner of McLane and Airport Roads. All are welcome to attend the free soup supper and the inspiring Lenten service. Pastor David Sweet can be reached at (928) 474-2098.

March Not for Profit Organizations meeting

This month, the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Buzz meeting is focusing on the Not for Profit programs in the area.

The topic will be advertising and public relations for NPOs and how to maximize impact for fund-raising. This does not mean that there is not something for everyone else, as many of the For Profit businesses volunteer time and give funds to NPOs.

The meeting will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 17 (wear green) at Mount Cross’s Lomona Lodge. The speakers will be Pat Johnson of KMOG, Pete Aleshire and Bobby Davis from the Payson Roundup and Mike Rose of Webbness. They will discuss the writing of press releases, timing of articles, maximizing media advertising dollars and when to use each form of media.

Genealogy Society needs donations

The Northern Gila County Genealogical Society is accepting donations for its annual yard sale. The Society is a tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation, therefore all donations are tax deductible.

Please drop off donations at the Genealogy Library, 302 E. Bonita St., during regular business days and hours. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.

Payson Area Singles

The group has no dues, elections or couples. Its upcoming activities include:

• A St. Patrick’s Day activity is planned for Thursday, March 17. Members who want to carpool to Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde will meet at Home Depot at noon. Wear green and Cliff Castle Casino will give you $15. Dinner is $8. The cost of gas will be at least $10 per person. The casino is awarding three $200 Hot Seats per hour.

• The car pools for the Friday, March 18 ride in dome car on the vintage Copper Spike Train in Globe will leave from the Sawmill Theatres upper parking lot at 9 a.m.

Payson Tea Party

The Payson Tea Party meets every Thursday night (except holidays) at Tiny’s Family Restaurant, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There are great speakers and/or great interaction each week on local, state and federal issues. All are welcome. Call (928) 468-1131 for more information.

Scripture study

A non-denominational, in-depth expository scripture study is held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at Uptown Espresso, 612 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

The group is currently studying through the Gospel of John.
