A Chandler couple was arrested Friday after police found a goody bag worth of drugs in their hotel room, including cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, heroin and huffing canisters.
The couple’s arrest falls on the heels of two other drug-related raids last week. Three area residents were arrested in those searches.
Police were initially called to the local motel for a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they smelled burning marijuana and saw drug paraphernalia in the room.
After obtaining a search warrant for the room as well as the couple’s rental car, police found 30 grams of cocaine, an ounce of marijuana, ecstasy tablets, 11 grams of heroin, cans of nitrous oxide used for huffing, drug-related paraphernalia and a handgun, according to a press release from the Payson Police Department.
Jonathan Savery, 28, and Meena Khattak, 34, were booked into the Gila County jail on charges of possession of narcotic drugs for sale, possession and use of marijuana, dangerous drugs, narcotic drugs, drug paraphernalia, use of vapor releasing substance and misconduct involving a weapon.
Last year, the PPD’s special enforcement unit (SEU) arrested 95 people on drug-related charges.
On March 6, William Rinehart, 29, and Lauriena Neal-Rinehart, 29, joined that list when they were arrested for use of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found drugs and paraphernalia in a home in the 1100 block of West Crestview Drive.
Officers were originally called out for a disturbance at the home.
Both subjects were booked into the Gila County jail.
On March 8, the SEU and the Gila County Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at a home at 190 Cornerstone Way in Star Valley.
Brent Gerberich, 24, was arrested and booked into the Gila County jail on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated DUI.
The investigations remain ongoing as detectives follow up with information from the scene.
