Activities Picking Up In The Village

Spring is busting out all over! I was in town on Monday and the mock pear trees in the Safeway Plaza and in the Bashas’ parking lot are in full bloom. What a beautiful sight!

I cut my rose bushes the other day, they are already starting to bud, I sure hope that the frost doesn’t kill the buds. I have learned over the years of living in the Village that frost can still occur as late as the first week in May. My hubby and I have jumped the gun so to speak in previous years when it comes to planting our garden and have gotten “skunked” by the frost. We have learned our lesson to wait patiently until we are sure that there is no more danger of frost.

Busy Villagers

Activities are picking up in the Village now that the warm weather is here.

A Bible study has been scheduled for Thursday, March 24 at the Tonto Village Chapel. Pamela Furubotten will be discussing “What do the numbers mean in the scriptures?” The time will be from 11 a.m. to noon. Sounds interesting to me, hope to see you there.

Also an art class has been arranged by Pamela at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 5 at the chapel.

If you paint or have a desire to learn to paint, this class is for you. All mediums will be explored including oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastels. All materials needed will be discussed at the first session. If you have any questions, please call Pam at 478-4649.

Every Wednesday afternoon the gals from the surrounding area, get together to compete in playing Dominoes. This is a great time for catching up with the news, having a great lunch and just having fun being together and laughing, sometimes hysterically. What a great stress reliever this get together can be. Come and enjoy the fun and competition. The fun starts at 1 p.m. at the Hellsgate Tonto Village Fire Station meeting room.

Hellsgate Fire Department

Hellsgate Fireflies Auxiliary will hold a workshop session Monday, March 21 at the Tonto Village Fire Station. The session will start at 10 a.m. The session will explore ideas and plans for the auxiliary for the coming year. Raffle tickets for the Husqvarna 20-inch chain saw known as the “Rancher” will be distributed so that the Fireflies can start selling tickets. This chain saw is the one most preferred by wildland firefighters, so you know it has got to be a top of the line chain saw.

Along with the subject of chain saws, a refresher course known as the “SAWS” class will be held by Fire Captain Rick Heron on March 26-27. The class will go over the operation and maintenance of a chain saw. Call the main office in Star Valley to sign up. The phone number is 474-3835.

There are several dates available for “Pack Tests” classes. Call Captain Heron to sign up at the main fire station.

There are many firefighters who will be attending the Wildland Academy in the coming weeks. For more information about attending, please call the Hellsgate Fire Station in Star Valley.

Hellsgate Fire Station #22 in Tonto Village will be “unmanned” for about a week because our resident engineer firefighter Jeff Yunkens will be attending the Wildland Fire Academy and then he will be on vacation. Please call the main station in Star Valley if you need any assistance.

Double D Doings

Pool results for this past week: Tuesday evening the ladies from Christopher Creek had the most luck in grabbing the top spots. Nancy Olson shot for first place, followed by Village resident Kara Shaw shooting for second place and Patty Boeschling taking third place.

The men’s competition was last Thursday evening and the top shooter was Brady Dupke of Diamond Point followed by Harvey Poyner taking second place and Jim White of Tonto Creek Estates capturing third place.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Get well

Doris Kindler of Bear Flat has been admitted to Payson Regional Medical Center with an infected foot. May the sun shine on your speedy recovery, Doris. A brief visit would be appreciated, stop by and see her if you can.

Birthday wishes to Sharon Marksbury of Kohl’s Ranch. Her special day is March 17. I left out the date of Gayle Fitch’s birthday last week. Her big day is on March 22. Gayle is on the Hellsgate Fire Board and has served in that position for a number of years. Her service is much appreciated. Happy birthday to Sharon and Gayle.

As you can see, there are many varied activities in the next few weeks to satisfy anyone who has cabin fever and wishes to escape the boredom of winter. Come out and check out one of the many things that are available to do. See you around!
