Eugene C. McDaniel

Eugene C. McDaniel went to be with the Lord while surrounded by family in his own home March 13, 2011.

He was born March 23, 1920 in Hobart, Okla.

He worked in road construction, building many of the Arizona roads we have all used over the years. Upon his retirement from the Operating Engineers in 1973, he eagerly moved to his land in Payson.

Mr. McDaniel had two daughters, Laveta and Carol with his first wife Rosie, who passed away in 1978, just five years after moving to Payson. After a wonderful first wife he had the remarkable good fortune to find the recently widowed Stella here in Payson with whom he shared 32 years of a very loving marriage. Stella had three daughters, Cleta, Leta and Debbie, before meeting Gene, with only Debbie still living at home. Mr. McDaniel lost his oldest daughter Laveta all too early in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Stella McDaniel; daughters, Carol (Sid) Bates, Debbie (David) Teeples, Leta (Curt) Coleman and Cleta Byrd; grandchildren, Laurie Brunson, Kelly Pendergast, Renee Teeters, Jennifer Bates, Autumn Cox, TJ Teeples, Cody Teeples, Ashi Young, Shawna Peterson, Butch McDowell, Reggide Rule and Richard Hudson; 16 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held for Mr. McDaniel at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 17 at Payson First Southern Baptist Church.
