The Rim Country Middle School Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball team, coached by former Lady Horn star Danielle O’Haver and her father, Raymond, wrapped up the regular season with a 7-0 record.
Armed with the unblemished mark, the Lady Mavs advanced to the season-ending White Mountain League tournament where the team opened with wins against Show Low Sequoia, 56-21, and Canyon Day, 41-26.
In the championship against a 9-1 Snowflake team, RCMS suffered its only loss of the season losing a one-point decision.
“Snowflake made two free throws with 16 seconds left to take the lead,” said Raymond O’Haver. “We had a good last-second shot that didn’t fall.”
The team averaged 37 points per game during the year, and gave up just 18 ppg.
Tessa Hintze led the team offensively scoring at a 15 ppg game clip. She also averaged nine rebounds per game.
Other big-time contributors were Kelsee Stonebrink, Sara Novack and Brittany Proctor.
At the conclusion of the season, Raymond O’Haver expressed appreciation saying, “Danielle and I would like to thank RCMS and the parents for all their support this year.
“We love coaching and had a great year with an awesome group of girls.”
