Fire Station Coming To Bonita Creek

The Whispering Pines Fire District has taken a step forward in its plans for the construction of a permanent fire station in the Bonita Creek community with the purchase of a lot at the corner of Myrtle Point Trail and Antelope Trail.

Whispering Pines Fire District recently took the first steps toward building a new fire station with the purchase of a plot.

The property is an extremely attractive location because it is a corner lot, which will allow access for fire apparatus from both roads. The district currently utilizes a temporary structure on Big Al’s Run to house Engine 746, a brush truck (type 6) with medical response capabilities.

Once built, the fire station will be one of the first structures seen by everyone when they enter the community.

The station is tentatively planned to be a three-bay structure that will eventually be home to a structural engine (type 1), a brush truck (type 6) and a water tender (type 3). A unique part of the station design is to include at least 30,000 gallons of firefighting water storage. The water will be harvested from rain water and snow melt from the station roof. This feature will eliminate the need to use the valuable potable water from the community’s water company.

The date for construction is still pending.
