A quick moving fire destroyed a travel trailer and killed a cat Tuesday night in a Payson trailer park.
The trailer’s owners were away in the Valley when the fire started just before 10 p.m. A neighbor heard explosions outside their window and saw flames shooting from the trailer and a small-attached shed in space No. 53.
The back of the trailer was quickly engulfed and firefighters did what they could to save the rest, however, it was a total loss, said Payson Fire Chief Marty deMasi.
More than a dozen firefighters, some from Houston Mesa Fire District, kept the fire from spreading to nearby trailers in the Oak Mobile Home Park, at 1304 N. Beeline Highway.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but deMasi said there is nothing that makes it suspicious at this time.
Fire Marshal Bob Lockhart examined the trailer’s ashes Wednesday, but has still not determined a cause.
