Fire Restrictions In Effect For Payson

Drought conditions, hot temperatures and increased fire danger have resulted in fire restrictions being implemented within and around the town of Payson.

Forest Service officials on May 11, implemented a prohibition on building fires, campfires or using a charcoal-burning device within the Tonto National Forest. There are exceptions allowed by the Forest Service in specific developed recreation sites and campgrounds.

To ensure the safety of our community, the Payson Fire Department suspended burning permits on May 11. In addition, the use of fireworks is prohibited on the forest and in Payson at all times. The restriction does not apply to the safe use of outdoor grills utilized for cooking or non-combustible fireplaces with spark arrestors or approved chimneys.
