Deca Students Collect Donations To Help Support Breast Cancer Group

Payson High School’s DECA club wanted to help a local breast cancer support group, so they collected donations and recently presented a check to the Breast Cancer Support Group of Payson.

DECA members Eric Vohs, James Potvin, Sean Ford, Courtney Dyer and Logan Tsosie gave Ilona Swenson, of the Breast Cancer Support Group, a $200 check.

“It is a comfort and an honor to realize that there are young adults attending high school here in Payson that are involved in giving of their time and talents to help people in their community,” Swenson said.

“The group wanted to have their money working locally and our support group certainly qualifies.”

The support group is made up of women diagnosed with breast cancer. On the second Thursday of every month, the group meets at the Mount Cross Lutheran Church from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and women share their experiences.

“This donation will help bridge the financial gap of what insurance covers and what is out-of-pocket for breast cancer survivors in our community,” Swenson said.

Joe Parone is the DECA adviser.

For more information on the support group, contact Swenson at (928) 472-3331.
