The Gary Hardt Memorial Spring Rodeo is still taking place at the Payson Event Center Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 19, 20 and 21.
Rumors about a cancellation are false.
Payson Professional Rodeo Committee president and rodeo boss Bill Armstrong said the rodeo would go on as planned.
Concern over a fast spreading, untreatable equine respiratory illness was expressed at the May 17 Payson Town Council meeting.
Armstrong added there will be two veterinarians at the rodeo grounds to check all the horses.
“Guys with $50,000 to $100,000 horses have told me they’re still coming,” Armstrong said.
John Landino, another member of the rodeo committee, said they have checked with the state veterinarian and there are currently no restrictions on horse movements in the state.
