The Gila County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body found inside a burned up vehicle off a forest road April 28 as Paul Nicholas Golovin, 58, of Tempe.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause and manner of Golovin’s death.
“This task is difficult due to the damage incurred in the fire,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.
The body was found after firefighters extinguished what they thought was only a vehicle fire in a remote canyon south of the Highway 188 and 87 turnoff.
Firefighters discovered Golovin’s body in the back of the SUV with camping supplies stacked around the vehicle. Detectives believe Golovin could have been camping in the back of the SUV, but are releasing few other details about the scene.
