Time to register for Quilt Roundup

The annual Quilt Roundup will be Nov. 10 through Nov. 14, so now is the time to register for the classes to be offered at the event.

Book donations needed

Gently used books are now being accepted for Rim Country Literacy’s 12th Annual Used Book Sale Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 at RCLP’s new offices at 1001 S. Beeline Highway, behind the Knotty Pine Café.

To donate books, donation boxes have been set up at the Literacy Offices, Payson Senior Circle, and Pine Strawberry School. Call the Rim Country Literacy Office at (928) 468-7257 with any questions.

Day of the Dead celebration

The Payson Public Library is presenting a special family program to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. The free event is from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3 at the library.

Don’t know what this Mexican holiday is? Then come and let the kids discover why the Day of the Dead is celebrated – and learn something yourselves.

The program will let you: participate in a different culture; enjoy dance, songs, and music; make a calaca; laugh at Sr. Calavera’s puppet show; decorate a sugar skull; learn a little Spanish; have loads of fun.

Trail clean-up day

Volunteers are needed to help the Forest Service clean and improve the Monument Peak/Granite Dells Trail.

Clean up will be from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 5 and include: placing trail signs and removing graffiti and garbage.

Meet at the Monument Peak Trailhead and be sure to bring water and snacks and gloves; wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts.

Annual Chili Supper

It’s time for the 15th Annual Chili Supper sponsored by PAWS (Payson Area Woofers).

The event is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8 at MoJoe’s Grill at Bonita and Hwy. 87.

The cost for adults is $7 and children are only $4. Proceeds will help fund future low cost/no cost spay/neuter clinics. Come enjoy the homemade bakery desserts, along with chili and more.

The members of PAWS will have great items to purchase, gorgeous baskets to bid on, as well as a 50/50 raffle.

Purchase tickets in advance at the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, Payson Public Library or the Humane Society Thrift Store. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Minnesota Breakfast planned

Rim Country residents and winter visitors from Minnesota are invited to a Minnesota Breakfast starting at 7 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Hwy. 260. For additional information, contact Betty Raveling at (928) 468-7132.

Memoir & Altered books workshop 

A workshop on memoir writing and crafting altered books is planned Nov. 12 at the Senior Center, 514 W. Main St., hosted by the Rim Country District of the Arizona Press Women. The event goes from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes lunch. The fee is $30, but there is an early bird discount fee of $25 for registration by Nov. 9.

The featured presenters are Dee Dees and Brenda Hamric of Paper & Metals Scrappers.Participants should bring an old hardback book with its spine in good condition, 1-1/2(half) or 2-1/2(half) inches thick for this project.

TCCA presents John Denver tribute

Boasting the only full length concert tribute to John Denver, Jim Curry will lend his voice and remarkable resemblance to the star in his crowd pleasing production of “Take Me Home: the Music of John Denver” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Payson High School Auditorium.

Children’s Christmas shopping spree benefit

The Payson Elks Lodge will be hosting a benefit for its annual Children’s Christmas Shopping Spree Friday, Nov. 11. With the current economic situation, donations are down and the assistance of the community is needed to make this a successful endeavor.

The Elks are asking for donations for this benefit. Those interested in helping may give a door prize or a cash donation.

16th annual Celebration of Life

Hospice Compassus, Messinger’s Funeral Home, the Rim Country Hospice Foundation and Gerardo’s Italian Bistro invite the public to the annual Celebration of Life.

The commemoration begins at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Mountain Bible Church.

Gerardo’s Italian Bistro will provide a full-course meal at the end of the evening. The Celebration of Life is free of charge and open to the community. However, each participant is asked to bring a can of food to be given to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank to help those less fortunate during the holidays.

Personalized crystal butterfly ornaments can be ordered prior to the evening event for $12 per ornament. Anyone interested in attending or ordering ornaments should contact Hospice Compassus by Friday, Nov. 11; call (928) 472-6340 to R.S.V.P. and order ornaments.
