Electric Light Parade entries due Nov. 18

The clock is ticking down to the annual Electric Light Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3. Entry applications must be submitted to the Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department by Friday, Nov. 18. Entry fees are between $10 and $25.

The theme is “North Pole Fantasy” and among the suggested ideas: reindeer in their barn, Santa in his workshop or elves asleep after their work is finished.

Title sponsor for the event is Chili’s. The parade is an annual event on Payson’s Historic Main Street and will start at Green Valley Park and go east on Main to Sawmill Crossing. It will take place regardless of the weather, so get those entries in and get to work on those float plans.

Turkey Trot 5k Run

Rim Country residents and visitors are invited to register now for the Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department’s annual 5k run beginning and ending at Green Valley Park.

The run, known as the Turkey Trot 5k, will be Saturday, Nov. 19. Check-in is at 8 a.m.

The cost is $25 per person and registration is taking place now.

There is no T-shirt guarantee for late registrants, however day-of registration is available.

Benefit for Patty Kaufman

A benefit to help Patty Kaufman with medical expenses — Patty’s Day — will be from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19 at Rumsey Park Ramada 5. The John Scott Band will perform from noon to 2 p.m. There will be barbecues pulled pork, hamburgers and brats.

Dinner, dance to benefit holiday party

The Greater Payson Moose Lodge will host a benefit dinner and dance starting at 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19. Dinner will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the dance, featuring Junction 87, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple. For the dance only, admission is $5 per person.

Members of the Moose will be serving St. Louis style ribs, potatoes, a vegetable, salad, rolls and dessert. For tickets or information, please call the Lodge at (928) 474-6212 after 1 p.m. All proceeds from this event will go to the annual Children’s Christmas Party.

Celebration of Life

Remember and honor the passing of a loved one during the holidays by celebrating their life.

Hospice Compassus, Messinger’s Funeral Home, the Rim Country Hospice Foundation and Gerardo’s Fireside Cafe invite the public to the annual Celebration of Life.

The commemoration begins at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Mountain Bible Church. The evening includes prayers, music, remembrances, a power point presentation, a beautiful signing performed by one of our hospice home health aides, and a tree lighting ceremony.

Gerardo’s will provide a full-course meal at the end of the evening.

The event is free of charge and open to the community. However, each participant is asked to bring a can of food to be given to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank to help those less fortunate during the holidays.

Holiday house lighting contest entries due Dec. 9

The 7th annual Rim Country Chamber “Light the Rim” house lighting contest, co-sponsored by Chapman Auto Center and the Payson Roundup, is now accepting applications. The chamber, Chapman Auto Center or the Roundup must receive entries by noon, Friday, Dec. 9.

The theme, “Light the Rim,” combines community spirit and individual creativity by Rim Country residents. There is no charge to enter the contest. The goal is to get as many homes lighted and entered to show off a brightly lighted Rim Country.

Judging will take place on the evenings of Tuesday, Dec. 13 and Wednesday, Dec. 14. The lights must be lit from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on those evenings.

Prize money for the event, donated by Chapman Auto Center, is as follows: $250, first; $150, second; $100, third.

A map and list of entrants will be placed in the Friday, Dec. 16 issue of the Roundup and will be available at Chapman Auto Center and the chamber.
