Nichols is Niners Club Champion

Debbie Nichols is the 2011 Club Champion of the Payson Women’s Golf association Nine Hole Golf Club. The low gross club championship was held the first two weeks of October during which Nichols, who is also the club president and operates the recently opened Peak Medical Care in Payson, held off stiff competition from her fellow Niners to emerge victorious.

Donna Larson won “Most Improved” for the 2011 season. Linda Teasley, Nancy O’Rourke and Ann Adams won weekly closest-to-the-pin contests during the month of October.

The Niners’ 2012 season will begin the first Thursday in April. Anyone interested in joining the Niners is encouraged to call Ann at (928) 468-6686 or (602) 540-7526, or Debbie at (928) 595-1176.

New volleyball club tryoutsClub Payson, the new volleyball club in town, will be holding tryouts Saturday, Nov. 19 in the Rim Country Middle School gym.

Tryouts for girls in the fourth through sixth grades will be at 6:30 p.m. Those in the seventh and eighth grades will tryout at 7:30 p.m. and high school tryouts will be at 8:30 p.m.

All those trying out must bring proof of being a member of USA volleyball through, a copy of their birth certificate, a $20 tryout fee, and a parent to fill out medical forms.

Coaches will be Trevor Creighton for the 18 team; Shelli Creighton for the 16 team; Arnold Stonebrink for the 14 team; and Jadyn Walden for the 12 team. More teams may be formed if interest is high enough.

Location: Houston Loop Trail

Enjoy the breathtaking views and historic sites on the Houston Loop Trail. Participants will meet at the intersection of Mayfield Canyon Road and Highway 260 in Star Valley (drive in one-half mile to park vehicles). Difficulty is classed as “Moderate” for the 5-mile trail.

Turkey Trot 5k Run

Date: Saturday, Nov. 19

Time: 9 a.m.

Location: Green Valley Park

Fee: $25

Register for the annual 5k run beginning and ending at Green Valley Park.

Check–in is at 8 a.m.; race day registration is available, however it has no guarantee of a commemorative T-shirt.

A prize will be given to the participants with the funkiest socks.

Youth Basketball

Youth Basketball registration for boys and girls in the fifth and sixth grades is open until Nov. 27. The cost is $30 per child. Games are played on Saturdays at Rim Country Middle School starting in early December.

Registration for the second session of Start Smart and Biddy Basketball for children ages 3 years to second-grade is open. Cost is 20 dollars per child. These fundamental clinics will be given on Saturdays in January and February. Times and location to be announced.
