Animals at the Humane Society of Central Arizona (HSCAZ) benefited from the recent Pins for Paws event held at Rim Country Lanes. The event was sponsored by residents of Chaparral Pines, neighbors and friends.

A regular group of casual bowlers decided to turn one of their outings into a fund-raiser. Cathy and Chuck Buckisch, and Frank and Judy Woertz came up with the idea to call it “Pins for Paws” and make the night about helping animals.

The couples enlisted friends to bowl, to donate cash per pins, and non-bowlers were encouraged to attend to cheer on a favorite bowler or team.

A total of 51 bowlers hit the lanes, the raffle prizes were generous and the spectators were loud. The Rim Club and Chaparral Pines Club each donated dinners for four valued at $400 each, and a foursome of golf valued at $500.

Eighty guests attended a buffet dinner following the fun at the alley — and it was announced $6,000 was raised to benefit the animals served by the Humane Society of Central Arizona.

This was a first-ever event and participants are already looking forward to the next year’s Pins for Paws.
