It’s the day after. A day filled with good food, family gatherings, and of giving meals to ones less fortunate and a day filled with football games, cat naps, and going through the massive amount of ads and planning a strategy for mega shopping in the stores that have the best deals.
Today is known as “Black Friday.” That day after Thanksgiving has been labeled that because there are businesses whose profits go from red to black and they mark down their merchandise to encourage buyers to their stores.
I know of some shoppers who start looking for those “red hot” bargains as early as midnight.
Not for me! Although there was one time a few years ago my husband and I were caught up in the excitement of going after those incredible bargains with our fishing buddies Rick and Theresa.
I must admit, we did find some good buys, but the lines of people waiting to get into the stores went around the block. It was an exhausting day!
There are only a few days left in the month of November and soon it will be Christmas party time. To start our round of parties, there will be a Christmas luncheon on Dec. 3, followed by the Domino Diva Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. at the Tonto Village Fire Station. There will be a gift exchange and great food and the main dish is roast pork. Bring a side dish and a gift and a fun afternoon is almost guaranteed.
Another Christmas party will be held by the V.F.W. post in Punkin Center on Dec. 13. The event will be held at the Punkin Center Restaurant and Bar.
The birthdays for the Snyder clan start on Dec. 1 and continue right through the whole month and on into January. What a busy season! I haven’t even started a Christmas list yet, and time is going too fast.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The meetings still go on even though there are so many other activities. The Hellsgate Fire Board will be meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the meeting room at the Star Valley fire station on 80 S. Walters Lane. This is the correct address, I goofed and got the address wrong in my column last week.
Be patient when you are calling the fire station. The phone system is being upgraded and the process is not quite finished. The only phone number that is still up and running is the main number, 474-3835.
The food drive is now under way and your help is desperately needed to supply the food bank with much-needed staples for the holiday season.
Please drop by either the Star Valley fire station or the Tonto Village station with your donation. The auxiliary will be gathering food until a few days before Christmas. Your help is greatly appreciated.
The auxiliary is also still collecting recipes for their upcoming cookbook, “Fireflies Can Cook.” The recipes are needed by Dec. 31, so please get them to: penny firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you do not have access to a computer, the recipes can be mailed to Hellsgate Fire Department, 80 S. Walters Lane, Star Valley, AZ 85541. Earmark the envelope “recipes.” Hopefully this project will help generate fund-raising dollars for the firefighters in the Hellsgate Fire Department.
Double D Doings
Last Tuesday evening at the Double D, the nine-ball competition got under way between the Christopher Creek gals and the Tonto Village gals.
The winners were Marie Leonard, Nanci Olson and Patty Boeschling. Then on Thursday evening, the eight-ball competition was held in a mixed competition between the gals and the guys. When the chalk dust settled, Harvey Poyner won first place. Ethel Cain and John Watson shot for second and third places. Congratulations to all the winners.
