A special tour will help residents learn about the people who built Payson from a wide spot in the road to the great town it is today.
Historian, author and entertainer Jinx Pyle will lead a tour of the Payson Pioneer Cemetery starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8.
Hosted by the Northern Gila County Historical Society, this is a free tour.
The Payson Pioneer Cemetery is owned and maintained by the Payson Womans Club and has been used since 1882, according to a story written by Pyle’s wife, historian and author Jayne Peace Pyle for a special publication by the Roundup for the 125th anniversary of the town.
Participants should meet at the cemetery for the tour, which will last approximately one hour.
There is no need to sign up at the museum for the tour, however, an optional lunch afterward will be offered at the Lone Pine Hotel for $6 per person, plus tax, and registration is required for it. Sign up for the lunch at the museum. The museum phone number is (928) 474-3483.
This tour is the final event of the Rim Country Museum’s summer tour series, which started with a tour to sites in the area made famous by author Zane Grey.

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
