Roadwork in Strawberry

The Gila County Road Department will be chip sealing in Strawberry on Glen Straun, Parkinson and Bonnie Brae on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Drivers should be prepared for delays and should stay alert to traffic control.

Mesa del Caballo water meeting

There will be an open public meeting to discuss domestic water improvement district formation at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Church of the Nazarene, 200 E. Tyler Parkway, Payson.

Beyond Limits food drive

Beyond Limits Disability Ministry concludes its annual canned food drive on Tuesday, Oct. 11 when members and friends bring their collections at 6 p.m. to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, 511 S. St. Phillips St., Payson.

At 6:15 p.m., participants will go to Crossroads Foursquare Church, 114 E. Cedar Lane in Payson for Pizza Night, free of charge, and a time of fellowship and inspiration. Caregivers and service providers for the participants are welcome to attend.

Beyond Limits is an interdenominational Christian group for adults with developmental disabilities. The ministry is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization. For questions or further information, call Mark or Jennie Smith at (928) 468-8434.

Pine/Strawberry Thrift Store sale

The Pine/Strawberry Thrift Store will have books, pillows, 8-track tapes and cassettes at half off the marked prices Oct. 12 through Oct. 15. Fall and winter clothing is now being shown at very reasonable prices. New items are put out daily.

The store is located at 3916 N. Highway 87 in downtown Pine, in the Community Center, and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Senior Circle programs

The Payson Regional Medical Center Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, has the following programs planned for October:

Lunch and Learn, 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Oct. 12 — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To ease the concerns and fears of those who are hesitant to have a mammogram, the Senior Circle will host Guy Lanahan, director of radiology, and Nel Collins, mammographer, who will alleviate any apprehension. Learn about state of the art diagnostic tools at Payson Regional Medical Center. Every woman in Rim Country should attend this presentation. The presentation is free and the public is welcome. Member Lunch, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 — Scott Flake will discuss the benefits of planning for long-term care.

Redistricting Commission sets Rim meeting

The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission is holding public hearings for the express purpose of allowing citizens to tell the commission how they would like the new legislative and Congressional districts to be drawn. 

There will be a redistricting meeting in Payson at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the Best Western Payson Inn.

In the meantime, interested residents can fill out the commission’s questionnaire at www.azredistricting.org.

Shred-A-Thon Friday

The next Payson Shred-A-Thon will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. or until the truck is full, whichever comes first. Businesses and individuals can take advantage of this mobile shredding service to properly dispose of your sensitive documents onsite in the parking lot of Walmart (300 N. Beeline Highway). Look for the TNT Shredding truck parked near the highway in the Walmart parking lot.

The cost per bankers box (10”x12”x15”) is $6, cash or check for payment. Other sized boxes may be used but the cost will be estimated based on volume. TNT Shredding will donate part of the proceeds to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona. Bring your sensitive documents, get them shredded, and support the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program.
