Payson Art League member and artist Rock Newcomb will present a step-by-step slide show demonstration of his paintings at the group’s Tuesday, Oct. 18 meeting. His presentation will feature techniques and tricks used in the creation of his artwork. He obtains much of his inspiration and subject matter for his still life paintings from visiting museums, archaeological ruins and private collections of prehistoric and historic Native American artifacts. PAL meets at Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn, Payson. The public is invited. A “Show and Share” of members’ artwork and a social reception with light refreshments is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the program presentation at 7 p.m. after a short business meeting.

Payson Elks

The Payson Elks meet at 7 p.m., the first and third Thursday of each month at the Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

Elks members and guests are welcome to enjoy lunch at the Lodge from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Friday dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday dinner from noon to 5 p.m.

There will be a steak fry with the the Elks Jam Session at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15. Elks members and guests are also welcome.

Basic refreshments are offered for sale during Open Mic Night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 and Elks members and guests are also welcome at this event.

Celebrate Unity of Payson is now an official church affiliated with Unity Worldwide Ministries. As a structure continues to be built for Sunday Unity Services, which are planned to commence this fall, those interested are invited to attend these continuing events:

Sons of the American Revolution

The Rim Country Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution will meet at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15 at Tiny’s Restaurant.

If you are interested in tracing your ancestry back to the Revolutionary War, the organization has members who assist in this endeavor. Attend the meeting to learn more.

The Payson Lioness Club invites women of the Rim Country to become members to benefit many Payson area charities.

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road, Payson. (After turning in driveway, turn right at first driveway. OA meets in the Community Room in the center of the facility’s apartment complex.)

Pain management support group

Making Life Better, a pain management support group, meets from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Monday, excluding holidays, at the lobby of the Grant Clinic, 903 E. Highway 260, Payson. All are welcome to attend the free program.

This club has no dues or elections.

The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch meets at Tiny’s Restaurant at 9 a.m. every week to visit and plan future activities. All singles are welcome.

Friendship Bible Class, formerly Friendship Coffee, a non-denominational Bible study for women, meets at 1 p.m. every Tuesday at Uptown Espresso. All women in the community are invited.

Mother’s Club

The Payson United Methodist Church will be holding its next Mother’s Club meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 414 Easy St.

The Mom’s Club goal is to help mothers meet other mothers, find support as you raise your children and provide programs to help in the areas of parenting. 

A free evening meal is served, and sitters are provided, along with children’s activities while the moms meet.

Rim Country Garrett Retirees to meet

The Rim Country Garrett Retirees meet Thursday, Oct. 20 at Tiny’s Family Restaurant.

Social hour is at 11 a.m., with lunch from the menu served at noon.

Lost Loves

Lost Loves, a new support group for adults who have lost a loved one through suicide, meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month.

Adults suffering from such a loss are welcome to attend the group sessions which are free of charge.

Lost Loves will address grieving and other specific issues which those left behind often experience.  The group will be facilitated by a professional counselor and a survivor of suicide loss.

A nonprofit organization, Lost Loves is currently scheduled to meet at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.
