Annual Sew For The Cure Takes Place This Saturday

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Quilting Sisters and Valley Radiation Oncology are joining again this year for the second annual Sew for the Cure and Live, Laugh and Love and Celebration Party.

Quilting Sisters, at 904 N. Beeline, Payson, will have an army of volunteers sewing 50 travel pillowcases from 10 until done, Saturday, Oct. 22.

The pillow material has already been cut and embroidered and volunteers will put the pillowcases together and slip them on 50 travel pillows. The travel pillows will then be donated to Valley Radiation Oncology for distribution to patients battling breast cancer throughout the year. A little something that lets them know others care about their journey.

Cheryl Dolby, owner of Quilting Sisters, said there were 15 to 20 volunteers participating last year and she expects at least that many will be on hand to help with the project this year.

Most are customers and she said almost all have had their lives touched in some way by breast cancer.

“Anyone who can sew is welcome,” Dolby said.

Participants need to bring their own sewing machines. The shop donates all the fabric and pillows, along with the labor to cut and embroider the material.

Valley Radiation Oncology will be hosting the Celebration Party for 2011 patients.
