Artrageous Fair at Payson Library

Youth art classes are planned at the Payson Public Library over the next couple of weeks. The classes are free, but seating is limited and registration is required.

A photography class for those ages 10 to 14 will be offered from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18. The teacher is Bessie Tucker of the library staff. Students will need to bring their digital cameras.

A freehand drawing class will be taught to children ages 5 to 10 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25 by Joe Klein.

Senior Circle programs

The Payson Regional Medical Center Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, will host Scott Flake at its member lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19. Flake will talk about Long Term Care.

A special program on 2012 Medicare Annual Enrollment — Tips to Save Money will be presented by health insurance broker Tom Russell from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26.

How can Medicare beneficiaries save money and make better selections on their Medicare supplement, Medicare Advantage and/or Part D Rx choices? In this educational seminar, Russell reveals simple ways to navigate the maze of choices.

All Senior Circle members can receive free flu shots from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Oct. 27.

Elks open mic night

The Elks welcome members and guests to bring their instruments and showcase their talents in an open mic format hosted by Anne James, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19. Basic refreshments are available to purchase and there is no charge for admission. The Elks Lodge is located at 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

Fudge, salsa sale for MHA

The Salsa King’s salsa and fudge will be available on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Payson Regional Medical Center lobby, 807 S. Ponderosa. Shopping is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Boxing class

Learn about boxing at the Payson Public Library from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20. The class is for those ages 7 to 12 and will involve no actual contact. However, students will learn about punches and kicks (thrown in the air) from Jason Watson and Randy Steinke. The class is free.

Free class on Alzheimer’s disease

Community members who are facing the responsibility of caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease are invited to attend a free class called Living with Alzheimer’s disease from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20 at Rim Country Health, 807 W. Longhorn Road.

Lisa Schultz, PTA, Rehab Director and Personal Trainer, will present information on a wide array of topics and challenges surrounding Alzheimer’s, and will teach caregiving skills that can ensure that loved ones feel as supported and fulfilled as possible.

Gila Community College is offering the following Real Estate license renewal courses: Advanced Real Estate Exchange, 5:50 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20; Agency, 5:50 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27; Disclosure, 5:50 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3; Contract Law, 5:50 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10; Beneficiary Deeds, 5:50 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17.

The cost is $20 per class in advance, or $25 per class on the day of instruction.

These courses satisfy the Arizona Department of Real Estate’s requirements for continuing education hours for all sale and broker licenses.

Bake and Book Sale

The Northern Gila County Genealogy Library will be holding a Bake and Book Sale Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22. The sale is from noon to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22.

The library will have a large selection of paperback books and hardbound books — both fiction and non-fiction. There will also be an assortment of ‘homemade’ baked goods to choose from. The library is located at 302 E. Bonita St., Payson.

Deadline to register for art class at Pine Library

Artist Wanda Mitchell-Tucker of Winkleman, Ariz., has volunteered to teach an oil painting class on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Pine Library activity room, located behind the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center. She regularly offers classes at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts in Globe.

This class will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 to cover supplies only. She will teach students how to paint a rose from start to finish. Participants will end the lesson with a finished canvas that they can take home and frame.

Class size is limited and is for ages 13 and up. The supply fee needs to be paid at time of registration. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 21. For more information and questions, contact the library at (928) 476-3678.
