Payson Elks

Elks members and guests are welcome to enjoy lunch at the Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Friday dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday dinner from noon to 5 p.m.

NARFE meeting

The Mogollon Chapter 1235 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will hold their monthly meeting and no-host luncheon Wednesday, Oct. 26, starting at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

This month, the featured speaker will be Payson Fire Chief Martin deMasi.

All active and retired federal employees are invited to attend. Please remember Payson veterans and bring a non-perishable food item to the meeting.

New Hope Grief Support Group

The New Hope Grief Support Group is for those who have lost a spouse. It meets from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Optimist Club

The Rim Country Optimist Club (Friends of Youth) works in a variety of ways to help youth in the community. The area’s young people are served through benefits, activities and financial support.

The Optimists’ general meeting will be held at the Crosswinds Restaurant at the Payson Airport Wednesday, Oct. 26, with dinner at 5:30 p.m. The speaker, John Stanton, executive director of the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, will be speaking at 6 p.m.

Celebrate Unity of Payson is now an official church affiliated with Unity Worldwide Ministries. As a structure continues to be built for Sunday Unity Services, which are planned to commence this fall, those interested are invited to attend these continuing events:

Payson Tea Party

Little League election

The Rim Country Little League organization is electing its board of directors at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Rim Country Middle School cafeteria.

Anyone interested in being on the board is urged to attend this meeting. All positions are available. Little League needs strong, devoted people who want to make a difference in children’s lives and who love the sport of softball and baseball.

P. E.O. Sisterhood meets

Chapter DF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood will meet at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 28 at the home of Kathy Corley. Assisting Kathy will be co-hostesses Barb Privette and Fran Young. Payson Fly Casters

The Payson Fly Casters Club will meet Saturday, Oct. 28 at Tiny’s Restaurant. Members will have breakfast at 8 a.m., with the meeting following at 9 a.m.

Reformation Celebration

The Rock of Ages Lutheran Church Reformation Celebration will be held Sunday, Oct. 30.

The Reformation service begins at 4 p.m. with the Oktoberfest Bratwurst Dinner at 5 p.m. There will be door prizes and entertainment by the Senior Center Band.

Pine Library Friends meeting rescheduled

The Pine Library Friends have rescheduled the October meeting to 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 31 in the Library Activity Room, located right behind the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center. 

There will be no guest speaker as this will be an organizational meeting. The group’s new officers will set up its committees and chairmanships.

Anyone who would like to see if there is a way that they can help, please be sure to attend. For those who aren’t already members, it will be a good time to see how and why the Pine Library Friends operate.

Republican Club meets

The Rim Country Republican Club will meet at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 31 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

Bob Burns, candidate for the Arizona Corporation Commission and former president of the Arizona State Senate, will be the guest speaker.

Members and guests may gather at 11 a.m. to order lunch and socialize. The business meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m., and Burns will speak at noon.

An invitation

The Saving Graces of Payson — a Canasta card-playing group — is looking for a few ladies who enjoy fun, laughter and friendship.

This Red Hat group meets at 10 a.m. the first Wednesday of every month at the beautiful Chaparral Pines dining room. Anyone interested in joining will be welcomed. You do not need to know how to play, the members will be happy to teach the game.
