Community Health And Care Fair Nov. 5


The Mogollon Health Alliance, Payson Regional Medical Center, Hospice Compassus, and Pfizer are holding the 13th annual Community Health and Care Fair from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 5 in the gym at Julia Randall Elementary School.  Residents who generally do not receive health check-ups are encouraged to attend this free admission health event.

Health vendors will provide blood draws and testing, skin-cancer screenings, dental checks, blood pressure checks, basic breast exams, hearing tests, peripheral vascular disease screenings, and more.

Breast exams will be given by obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Cynthia Booth. Head and neck surgeon, Dr. Peter Zonakis, will offer skin cancer screenings, joined by Dennis Johnson, M.D., pathologist. Heart and lung screenings are available courtesy Hospice Compassus. At Payson Care Center’s booth people can get a myofascial release treatment. Chiropractor Liz Summers is back offering chiropractic screenings. Ear canal inspections are available at the Miracle Ear booth. Nursing students from Gila Community College will test blood pressure and oxygen levels. Information on blood sugar and diabetes can be found at the CCS Medical booth. The Payson Lions Club sponsors hearing and eye exams.

Payson Regional Medical Center has several booths including Healthy Women, Senior Circle Home Health, Diagnostic Imaging, peripheral vascular disease screening for the lower extremities and feet. PRMC’s laboratory staff will perform fasting blood glucose (and optional PSA for men) tests. Tests for men are $15 and those for women are $10.

The Mollen group will offer reduced cost flu and pneumonia vaccines. Most insurance is accepted at the Mollen booth.

New this year: Safeway will offer immunization consultations and have a limited number of shingles vaccines at their booth. These vaccinations come with a 10 percent off grocery coupon and a receipt for insurance reimbursement.

A variety of civic organizations and professionals will be at the event including:  Zane Grey Kiwanis, Agape Health Care, Time Out Shelter, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Payson Multi-purpose Senior Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, Payson Athletic Club, LDS Preparedness and Family History Center, Walgreens, KC’s Home Health, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Curves, the Humane Society of Central Arizona, Majestic Rim, Caring Presence, Rim Country Health and Retirement, GCC nurses, Mogollon Health Alliance and more.

Dump the Drugs will be at the Southwest Behavioral Health booth, so bring your unused, expired prescription or over-the-counter medicines so they do not enter our precious water supply or are accidentally ingested by a child.

Children’s screenings at the event will include dental exams, heart and lung exams, as well as vision and hearing tests.

Parents can also get nutrition information and have children fingerprinted.

Dr. Eric Anderson is offering screening dental checks for children. Volunteers from Payson Fire and Police Departments and Gracie Lee Haught Children’s Memorial Fund are teaming up to offer car seats and bike helmets. Local Boy Scouts will be on hand to help this group with fingerprinting.

Parents can have their young children screened for health outside in the Gila Child Help mobile unit. Representatives from the Payson Public Library who will have information about the Dolly Parton book program will join them.
