Fair Auction A Chance To Support Hard-Working Youth

It’s that time again! The Northern Gila County Fair is here this weekend.

A lot of people don’t know about the livestock part of the fair. The Payson 4H and FFA youth will show their livestock projects — goats, lambs, rabbits, swine and steers — at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9 to determine who wins Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, etc.

The 4H and FFA members have worked hard to raise the best possible animal to sell to the public. They are financially responsible for these projects. They learn bookkeeping, work ethic, team building and social skills. These are wonderful experiences and training tools that will be use for the rest of their lives.

The animals are sold at auction at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 under the big white tent at the Payson Event Center. There is a free buyer’s dinner at 5 p.m. for those interested in purchasing one of these animals. Get a bidder number from the registration desk at the tent.

Those not in a position to purchase an animal on their own are welcome to combine with family and friends to make it more affordable. Some of these animals sell for prices that are equal to or less than what is being paid in the grocery stores. Remember, this is organic, hand-raised meat.
