Friends, fans and supporters of the Rim Country Museum will have a chance to “put their money where their mouth is” this weekend and attend a pig roast dinner and visit the original site of the Zane Grey Cabin.
An Evening Under the Tonto Rim is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 and costs just $35 per person, which includes transportation, dinner, entertainment and more.
Owners of the cabin site and benefactors of the Rim Country Museum, Dave and Judee Morrison, are opening their home for the event for the second time.
In addition to the pig roast, there will be music by the Southern Comfort band, a tour of the original Zane Grey Cabin site and a special dedication ceremony.
Tickets are available at the Rim Country Museum in Green Valley Park and all proceeds benefit the Northern Gila County Historical Society.
It is suggested those participating meet at the museum to carpool as parking at the site is somewhat limited.
To finish off the weekend, a vintage “base ball” game will be played at Green Valley Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18.
Wearing uniforms styled after those used in the late 1800s and playing by “vintage” rules, members of the Payson Senior Softball Team, the Cougars, will meet the Stars & Stripes.
There is no admission, but lots of fun is promised.
To learn more, call the Rim Country Museum at (928) 474-3483, or stop by the museum between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday and Wednesday through Saturday, or between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.
