Veterans invited to game

The members of the Payson F.A.N. Club are inviting all area veterans to be their guests and enjoy watching the Payson Longhorns take on the Miami Vandals. Arrive for pregame events at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, with kickoff at 7 p.m.

The club members want to thank those who have served the country past and present. Others attending the game are asked to bring a canned food item for homeless vets. Admission to the game is free with any form of military affiliation/ID, such as dog tags, military ID card, uniform, squadron hat, rank, etc.

Aloha Benefit Breakfast

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, will have a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 to help send the Payson High School Marching Band to Hawaii to perform at the 70th Anniversary commemoration of Pearl Harbor Day on Dec. 7. The band will be performing aboard the U.S.S. Missouri.

Adults are asked to make a $5 donation for the breakfast, and children under 10 will be served free. For more information call (928) 474-5440

Rummage Sale

Payson First Church of the Nazarene Church, 200 E. Tyler Parkway, is planning a Rummage Sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17. Proceeds will benefit the church’s “Hands in Motions” Puppet Team and Safe Haven Child Development Center.

Please, no “early birds.”

Payson Farmers Market

Come to the Payson Farmers Market for delicious melons, tomatoes and the final crop of fresh roasted green chiles. 

Saturday is the last chance to buy the spices, pecans and muesli from Dan at Dust and produce from Freddy of Da Nede Farms and Matt and Renee of Abrahams Faith Gardens. However, there will be goods from other farmers available for the next few weeks. 

Enjoy the music of Kathleen Kelly and Jim West while shopping from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 17 at 816 S. Beeline Highway in the Sawmill Crossing behind Chili’s.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, Sept. 17, the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, Sept. 18 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. Properly bagged Yellow Starthistle or other listed noxious weed species will also be accepted and will be burned. No household garbage, construction debris or other items will be accepted.

U-Turn for Christ invitation

U-Turn for Christ at 509 W. Frontier St. would like to invite the Payson community to its Third Annual Alumni Pig Roast. This event celebrates the work the Lord has done, and continues to do in the men who have come to the Ranch with a variety of addictions and needs.

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. with great music with groups like Exit and CaVu, and around noon, lots and lots of food.

It is a good, old-fashion potluck where U-Turn for Christ members supply the barbecued pork and chicken and hot dogs and everyone can pitch in and bring their favorite dish or dessert to share.

Dog Day in the Park

Dog Day in the Park is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Payson Off Leash Dog Park in Rumsey Park, across from the Payson Public Library.

Sponsored by PAWS (Payson Area Woofers Society), the group that built the dog park, the day will include games, contests, mini-seminars and more, such as a raffle of a basket, which will include a $250 gift certificate from Star Valley Veterinary Clinic.

There will be vendors with goodies for both pets and their humans.

The Humane Society of Central Arizona will have dogs available for adoption at the event.

There will also be agility and flyball competitions and demonstrations in the adjoining ball fields in Rumsey Park.

Bring your dog on a 4- to 6-foot leash (no retractables) and plan to enjoy a day full of fun and activities.

Mogollon Chapter of DAR marks Constitution Week

Constitution Week is Sept. 17-23, celebrating the signing of this important document.

Members of the Mogollon Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution will be at the Payson Public Library Saturday, Sept. 17, starting at 10 a.m., with a Constitution Week display. They will also be handing out information regarding the Constitution to all who come by.

Gosar benefit

Congressman Dr. Paul Gosar, Congressional District 1, and Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, America’s 2011 Sheriff of the Year, will be featured at a barbecue from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 at Rumsey Park Ramada 3.

Knights of Columbus host Pancake Breakfast Sunday

The Knights of Columbus will host a Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Sunday, Sept 18 at St. Philip’s parish hall.

Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage patties, orange juice and coffee for $5 per person. Proceeds will be contributed to local charities.
