Shedding Sunlight On Your Dirt

Business profile: Sunshine Cleaning Systems LLC

Sunshine Carpet Cleaning

Sunshine Carpet Cleaning

Owner: Jesse Clark

How did the business start? Sunny Clark started Sunshine Cleaning Systems in 1987. The business initially only did window cleaning, but has since expanded to carpet cleaning and water damage restoration.

Sunny got me, her son, involved in the business at 11 years old. I took over the business in 2001 long before the film Sunshine Cleaning was released.

What services are offered? Sunshine offers carpet, tile and upholstery cleaning. We also wash oriental rugs, clean ducts and offer fire, water and mold remediation services.

Although remediation services seem different than other “cleaning” jobs, they are some of the most detailed.

Staff: Eight full-time employees. All crew chiefs are certified and trained by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. We have spent more than $100,000 in training through the years.

Biggest challenge? Our biggest challenge in the water damage side of the business is insurance agencies. The majority of water damage jobs in the Rim Country go to out of town companies based on insurance referrals.

Our goal is to keep as much of that work in town.

We are a small town and we are in this together. It is important customers know that their insurance company cannot legally require them to use their provider.

Sunshine works with all major insurance providers, however, our name won’t come up first when a customer calls their insurance’s claim hotline.

What positive lessons have you learned during the recession? Besides prayer? Growing without debt and keeping expenses as low as possible.

With so many people out of work, it is easier to find good help.

Quality work, continued training, good customer service and advertising have been key for us.

What strategy do you use to hire good people? Simple: if I could not trust someone in my home I won’t hire them.

Lately we have hired personnel on a temporary basis before committing to full time.

What is the best thing about running a business here?

The people in Payson are great and what a beautiful place to live.
