Desert Christian Runs Past Lady Horns

Desert Christian’s sizzling team speed was too much for the Lady Longhorns soccer team to overcome in a 5-1 loss to the Tucson school.

In the game, which was played Sept. 17 at Rumsey Park, Payson played what coach Amy Wilcox is calling “a great first half” mostly because high-powered DC was held to a single goal to lead 1-0 at halftime.

Longhorn Savannah Grassel blocks the ball in the PHS game against Desert Christian. The Lady Horns lost to the Eagles 5-1.

“The second half was a whole different game,” said Wilcox. “They ended up scoring on us four more times.

“Desert Christian is faster than us and they used that (speed) to score most of their goals.”

The Lady Horns scored their only goal of the game on some stellar teamwork from Natalie Moceri and Sage Pearce.

“They worked together once again,” said Wilcox.

“Natalie kicked a corner kick and Sage was able to knock it in.”

The coach also praised goalie Natalie Black for her defensive efforts.

“She came away with 10 saves,” said Wilcox.

The Lady Horns return to action tomorrow, Sept. 24 in Show Low, and on Sept. 27, they host Holbrook.

The Lady Horns get another crack at Desert Christian on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 when the team hits the road down to Tucson for the Old Pueblo Invitational being hosted by the DC Eagles.
