Dog Day In The Park Was A Success

Dog Day in the Park was a howling success, thanks to the dogs and their people who attended and our generous sponsors and venders. Sponsored by PAWS (Payson Area Woofers Society), the ninth annual event was designed for dogs and their people to have fun together.

This year, PAWS joined forces with Mogollon Agility LLC to provide agility and flyball events in the adjoining ball field. Did you hear the barking? Those dogs were having a howling good time.

The games and contests under the Big Top brought children and adults together with their dogs to exhibit clever costumes, canine vocalists and amazing tricks. Dogs and their people raced for the chairs in musical chairs and struggled to get costumes on mostly unwilling dogs in the costume race. Ball catching was also featured. Our judges, Pat Johnson of KMOG and Joanie King with Canine Good Citizen, did a super job. Hopefully, kids of all ages will be practicing with their dogs for next year’s event.

The Barkery Bakery featured wonderful homemade goodies for dogs and people. Money raised from this, the boutique and the raffles will provide low- or no-cost spay/neuter services for pets in the area. For future spay/neuter events, please contact the Humane Society of Central Arizona, (928) 474-5590.

We are grateful to our generous sponsors: Deb’s Custom Grooming, Dudley’s Mini Storage, KMOG, KRIM, Iron Horse Signs, Loot Retail, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, Payson Feed and Pet Supply, Payson Golf Course, Payson Pet Care, PostNet, Payson Roundup/ Rim Review, Safeway, Sawmill Theatres, Star Valley Veterinary Clinic and Walmart.

Special thanks go to DJ Craig and the Oldtime Music Makers who provided great entertainment.

Our next event will be the 15th Annual Chili Supper that will be held on Nov. 8 at MoJoe’s Café. Join us for great food and fun!
