Thanking Those Who Made Honor Flight Possible

As a World War II veteran, I want to thank Honor Flight Arizona for flying us to Washington, D.C. and conducting a three-day tour of the memorials dedicated to all our veterans.

Four of us from Payson left Arizona on Sept. 13 along with over 50 Arizona veterans on Southwest Airlines, amid the cheers and well wishes of hundreds of Arizona citizens. We arrived in Baltimore with hundreds more citizens cheering and applauding us.

It would take a long time to tell the tale of our welcome in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. This tour was done with contributions from many citizens and organizations at no cost to the veteran.

We are grateful for this wonderful experience and the care given by Guardians (who paid all their own expenses) to care for many in wheelchairs and on walkers. Thank you!

The only sour note in my opinion was that no representative from our elected Arizona officials, felt it worthy to greet us at the Capitol Building. I must say that Senator Bob Dole greeted us at the WWII Memorial. How strange that a Kansan felt us worthy, but no Arizonan did!

Again, thank you so much Honor Flight and contributors for this honor!
