Unity of Payson and Daily Word Readers

Celebrate Unity of Payson is now an official church affiliated with Unity Worldwide Ministries. As a structure continues to be built for Sunday Unity Services, which are planned to commence this fall, those interested are invited to attend these continuing events:

Ponderosa Men’s Breakfast

“Breakfast for a Buck” will be served at Ponderosa Bible Church, 1800 N. Beeline Highway, at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1 for the Ponderosa Men’s Breakfast. 

Kevin Ritter and his team will prepare breakfast, while the featured speaker will be Ed Warwick. 

Come to enjoy great fellowship, a super message and a complete breakfast that still costs only $1.

Tai Chi and Qigong

Tai Chi and Qigong classes are offered at 9 a.m. Saturdays at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road.

The program is especially designed for seniors 50 or older, but is beneficial for all ages. There is no charge, but donations are accepted.

American Legion Riders meetings resume

The American Legion Riders of Payson, Post #69 will resume monthly meetings at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1 at Tiny’s Restaurant.

Breakfast is at 9:15 a.m., with a business meeting to follow. Members and guests are invited to attend.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road, Payson. (After turning in driveway, turn right at first driveway. OA meets in the Community Room in the center of the facility’s apartment complex.)

Pain management support group

Making Life Better, a pain management support group, meets from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Monday, excluding holidays, at the lobby of the Grant Clinic, 903 E. Highway 260, Payson. All are welcome to attend the free program.

Friendship Bible Class

Friendship Bible Class, formerly Friendship Coffee, a non-denominational Bible study for women, meets at 1 p.m. every Tuesday at Uptown Espresso. All women in the community are invited.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America will meet at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the American Legion Post #69, located at 709 E. Highway 260.

PAWS meeting

PAWS in the Park, the group that built the off-leash dog park at Rumsey Park, will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the Payson Public Library. There will be a light supper service, with the meeting at 7 p.m.

Users of the dog park are invited.

High Country Garden Club

High Country Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6 at the First Southern Baptist Church, located at Colcord and Bonita Streets.

The program is “All About Gourds” — come and learn what can be done with a simple gourd. All area gardeners are welcome. Refreshments are served.

Trailwood West community picnic

Residents of Trailwood West will have a picnic from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8 at Rumsey Park Ramada 3.

Meet the neighbors and enjoy barbecued beef served on buns. The guest speaker will be Colt Maxwell.

Participants should bring a favorite dish to share. Beverages and paperware will be provided. Sign up with Mary Brown regarding the dish being shared (salad, side dish or dessert), (928) 472-7885. Reservations should be made with her by Sept. 30.

Tuesday Bridge Club winners announced

Winners at Tuesday Bridge Club for Sept. 27 were Mary Kemp, first; Rowena Cole, second; Betty da Costa, third.

Play is at 12:15 p.m. every Tuesday at Rim Country Health and Retirement Community. Area residents and guest are welcome.

Payson Elks

The Payson Elks meet at 7 p.m., the first and third Thursday of each month at the Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

Elks members and guests are welcome to enjoy lunch at the Lodge from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Friday dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday dinner from noon to 5 p.m.

Basic refreshments are offered for sale at the Elks Jam Session at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1 and during Karaoke Night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5. Elks members and guests are also welcome at these events.
