Weather Is Great, But Rainfall Is Lacking By Two Inches

The weather is perfect. We are having really chilly nights (in the low 40s) and nice, warm days.

What could be better. At night the windows can be open and we can actually have a light blanket over us. Autumn officially arrived on Sept. 23 to higher than normal daytime temperatures but has since leveled out. Some of the trees in the Village have already started to turn a golden color. The only downside to the weather is the lack of significant rainfall from this year’s monsoon.

The area is short on the wet stuff by over two inches. Hopefully, this weekend enough rain will fall to bring up those totals.

Bear Flat resident Dara Sutton keeps the rain totals for her area and she estimated that the total rainfall up until Sept. 27 is only 14.77 inches of rain compared to other years when the total estimated for other years was about an average 2 inches more of rainfall.

ADEQ water report

ADEQ sampled 14 sites along Tonto and Christopher Creeks on Sept 5-7.

The water quality was great with the creeks at base flow level. Single sample E.coli values ranged from 1.0 cfu/100 ml at Christopher Creek upstream of R-C Scout Ranch, to 214.2 cfu/ml at Christopher Creek downstream of Christopher Creek Camp-ground. The ADEQ single sample maximum Full Body Contact water quality standard for E.coli is 235 cfu/100ml, so Tonto’s and Christopher’s water quality was meeting the standard at all 14 sites, and all 18 site visits. If you have questions regarding the water quality, you can call 602-771-4549 or e-mail at
