Growing Families Together

It used to be that children on school breaks and in the summer said, I am so bored! Now they barely look up from their iPad, iPhone or PC. Have they played a game of Monopoly lately or have you all had a family visit at the dinner table? There is a giant opportunity for families to come together this summer.

Payson First Church of the Nazarene, 200 East Tyler Parkway, has made available a portion of its property just east of the church and will be working with the community to start a Community Garden beginning May 1. Residents may rent a 6-foot-by-25-foot plot at $50 for the growing season. You can choose to go there after work, on weekends or whatever times the garden is open. Open times are included in your sign up packet.

Have your children seen a seed sprout, watched it grow and tasted the fruits of their labor? For those of us of any age it is a healthy way to enjoy fresh crops to supplement our food supply. There is nothing quite like watering a garden in the evening and enjoying God’s beauty all around us.

A grand opening ceremony is planned for Saturday, April 29 with planting beginning that day. Contact JoAnne Rothlein at (928) 474-3766 to sign up for a plot.

“One is nearer to God’s heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth. We came from dust and we return to dust. In between we garden” (unknown).
