The Payson Choral Society’s spring concert, “Let’s Go to the Movies,” directed by Daria Mason with accompaniment by Cynthia Sambrano, comes to the Payson High School auditorium Saturday, May 5. Performances are scheduled at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The theme of the concert will let you enjoy songs from movies such as “Working 9 to 5,” “Top Hat,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Shrek” and everything in between.

Pre-sale concert tickets are $8 for adults. All students under 18 and children are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance from choral society members, the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and at the Payson Public Library. Tickets will also be available at the door before each concert for $10 each.

Proceeds from the concerts provide musical scholarships to middle and high school students. These have been awarded and each of the students will sing their winning tryout selection at the concert. This year there are five scholarship winners. Winning from Payson High School are John Buskirk, Katie Jones and Clint Harper.

Rim Country Middle School winners are Jasmine Ernst and Rio Chavez (the imaginative soul behind the recent Pink Flamingo “Flocking” of Payson — which is an effort to raise funds to attend a music camp this summer — read more on today’s Almanac page).

Ernst is also a member of the Payson Choral Society and will sing as part of the concert, as well as present her solo.

Additionally, music lovers will have a chance to buy subscriptions to the Tonto Community Concert Association’s 2012-2013 season at the choral society performances of its spring concert. The price of a subscription is $90 per person.

TCCA will present eight concerts during its next season: American tenor Daniel Rodriguez, with his wife, Marla Kavanaugh, will perform Sept. 30; The Abrams Brothers, bluegrass performing teens, appear Oct. 17; 42Five, five artists who created the sound of a band with their voices, Nov. 4; Prima Trio, a chamber group, Nov. 30; Masters of Motown, Jan. 22; Legacy of Floyd Cramer, presented by his grandson, Feb. 21; Rick Nelson Remembered, presented by his sons Matthew and Gunnar, March 2; and Side Street Strutters, with song and dance, May 6.
