Tonto Village is blooming all over. All the fruit trees have survived that freak snowstorm of a few weeks ago. The irises are showing off with beautiful shades of purple and lavender, yellow and white. Many of the residents have the flowers along their fences and it looks so pretty. I have heard quite a bit of sneezing, though, including me. Something that is blooming tickles the nose. I can handle that since everything blooming looks so nice.
My husband and I were in town on Monday and as we were driving through Star Valley, there was an obstacle in the road that hit my rear tire. I didn’t notice it until a fellow drove alongside of me and told me I had a flat. We were near Home Depot, so we pulled into the parking lot and Bill started to take the donut tire out of the trunk when a truck pulled alongside of us and asked us if we needed help. He said “yes, thanks,” so they proceeded to take over and within minutes, had the tire back on and even helped us in airing up the donut tire. Thank you to Jacob and Mike of Mike’s Yard and Home Maintenance for their help. We will be nominating them for the ‘Good Guy Award’ in the Payson Roundup.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The May meeting of the Hellsgate fire board will be held in Tonto Village at fire station #22 on May 11 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Brush pick-up will start on May 30 and continue until June 6. Make sure that Karen at station #21 knows where the brush is supposed to be picked up in your area. There will only be one pick-up per community.
There will be three vacancies on the Hellsgate fire board this coming election. There is a limited supply of applications at the fire station in Star Valley. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please pick up an application this week.
There are several firefighters who will celebrate their anniversary dates of service in May. They include Bill Dupke and George Karrys, each with four years of service; Bill Beller with six years; Jay Wagner, Rick Washburn, Chad Stluka and Bobby Mollere, all with seven years of service. Congratulations to all.
Hellsgate ‘Fireflies’ Auxiliary
The auxiliary will be holding a work party at Linda Stailey’s home at 10 a.m., Monday, April 30 to make the breakfast burros for the Memorial Weekend breakfast that will take place on May 26 at the Tonto Village fire station. The meal will start at 8 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m. The cost of the breakfast will still be $5 and will include biscuits and gravy, ‘real’ scrambled eggs, sausage patty, juice and coffee.
There will also be a bake sale for those eaters who have a sweet tooth. There will be breads, cupcakes, Texas sheet cakes, cookies and much more at reasonable prices.
There will also be a booth selling Hellsgate T-shirts and caps, advance sales of the cookbook “Fireflies Can Cook” and raffle tickets for a handmade quilt and a 20-inch chain saw. As you can see, there will be many places to help. If you would like to volunteer just for that day, that would be fine. Just stop one of the Fireflies and ask where you will be needed.
There will also be various homes with yard sales, so come and enjoy a good breakfast and try out some of the yard sale items.
The next Fireflies Auxiliary meeting will be on Monday, May 7 at the Tonto Village fire station. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited, and bring a friend.
Bob Evanson, firefighter with Hellsgate Fire Department, starts the month of May off with his birthday on May 1. Richard Pinkerton, Hellsgate fire board chairman, celebrates May 4, which is also Jeff Daniels’ big day. Jeff hails from Christopher Creek, but is also the local water company’s owner and operator and spends time in Tonto Village reading meters and fixing leaks.
Angela and Dylan Glass celebrate their seventh anniversary on Cinco de Mayo, May 5. Angela is the daughter of Rick and Theresa Meeker of Tonto Village II and Scottsdale, Ariz. Angie, as she is affectionately known, has spent many summers here as she was growing up, and loves the area. Happy anniversary to you, Angie and Dylan.
On May 10, Mitzi Boles Brabb of Tonto Village III will add another candle to her birthday cake — Happy Birthday, Mitzi.
