Another Rim Country Old-Timer Has Passed Away

Another old-timer has passed on. Hazel Dudley Owens, age 93, passed away in Weed, Calif. on July 26 with her son and family at her side. Hazel moved to Weed in May of 2012.

Hazel was an active member of the community. One of her earliest jobs was acting as a telephone switchboard operator when the exchange was in Belle Lovelady’s home.

Later she became an active member of the Payson Junior Woman’s Club and was influential in seeing the Payson clinic come into being and aided in securing a licensed physician for the clinic.

She volunteered much time at the animal clinic (she loved dogs). She worked at Connolly’s Variety Store and managed the Oak Trailer Park, which she and her husband, Kermeth L. Owens owned. He preceded her in death.

She worked tirelessly at the Payson Museum and at one time was desk clerk at Swiss Village Hotel.

She is survived by her son Kermeth D. Owens (Carol), her daughter Gwen Hammond (Steve) and granddaughter Krista Russell (Tom and two sons); also surviving are nephews Norman Dudley (Alta), “Doc” Dimbat (Evelyn), Errol Owens, niece Faline Calglazier (Sidney), sister-in-law Ella Lee Owens, and many friends.

No services are planned.

Ella Lee Owens
