Wasn’t it beautiful at the Mountain Daze Festival last weekend? I find beauty in the coldest or rainiest day, but there’s something about browsing artwork or hiking the Arizona Trail or fishing the Verde River in sandals on a warm summer day that is unbeatable.

Labor Day weekend Arts & Crafts Festival
The Labor Day weekend Arts & Crafts Festival sponsored by the P/S Arts & Crafts Guild is Sept. 1 and Sept. 2. The work of many of Arizona’s and the Southwest’s most talented artists will be on display at the Pine Community Center ramada, along with the works of top-notch crafters who create all original, hand-crafted, top-quality items — all made in the U.S.A.
Start the day with a pancake breakfast with all the trimmings, served by our local heroes, the P/S Fire Department.
Throughout the day, the Senior Citizens Affairs Foundation will be making their ever-popular Navajo tacos in the Senior Dining Room, adjacent to the Pine Thrift Store.
For 32 years, the P/S Arts and Crafts Guild has promoted the work of home-grown artists and American-made craftsmanship and cultivated an appreciation of fine arts and crafts within the community. The festivals enable local artists and crafters to give back to the community by donating festival proceeds to local charities.
Guild members meet in the Craft Room at the Pine Community Center on the last Friday of each month at 9 a.m. All Rim Country artists and crafters are invited to attend or to join the group. For more information see their Web site at http://psartscrafts.com.

Fire on the Rim
Cycling was one of the biggest sporting events in the 2012 Olympics with an immense crowd demonstrating the growing popularity of the sport. Get in on the fun at the Fire on the Rim Mountain Bike Race just four weeks away!
On Sept. 14, 15 and 16, mountain bikers will push their endurance and technical skills to the max when they ride the Rim in the annual race presented by the Mountain Bike Association of Arizona and P/S Fuel Reduction. The excitement is already growing among race participants. The mountain bikers come from all over the state and many have not previously been to the P/S area. Many will bring their family and friends.
The event features food (including a spaghetti dinner); vendors; live music, including Junction 87; free camping; kids events; a beer garden and more. You can also take part in a raffle for two totally awesome bikes. You’ll want to buy as many tickets as you can because these bikes are so worth it! The event and raffle are important to our community as every penny earned goes directly into trail building and wildfire prevention in the P/S fuel break.
