It is true that the AK 47 assault rifle is not the best for hunting, it is also true that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution does not guarantee the right to hunt. The right to bear arms pertains to military-grade weapons that can be used to overthrow the government if it becomes tyrannical.
The Founding Fathers were acutely aware that a citizen’s ability to project force served to insure that citizen’s freedom. People are rarely victimized or oppressed through pleasantries.
Muggers seldom smile, ask how your day was, then request your wallet, nor does the government take away liberties in that manner. Criminals and the government both use force or the threat of force to achieve their ends. A well-armed populace reduces violence because it removes force as the preferred method of getting things done.
Knowing that a person may hold a concealed weapon has a very chilling effect on the willingness of others to act aggressively toward them.
The would-be abuser is compelled to reason with their intended victim because the potential cost of using force is too great. Law enforcement and military personnel carry weapons for exactly this reason. Their intention is not to increase violence, but to diminish it, and the possession of a gun achieves that end. Your fellow citizen with a gun on her hip in Walmart is the least likely person to ever attack you and the most likely to come to your aid in your time of need.
