PAL meeting

The Payson Art League August meeting will feature a presentation by photographer and PAL member George Lewis. The meeting is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug 21 at Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road.

Lewis will present the question of how photography can be considered art. He will quote opinions of prominent photographers, whose images will be illustrated, and show examples of his own work, as well as explaining what he considers artistic, and what is not, with reference to historical ideas concerning the development of the artistic approach to photography. 

Payson Masons

Payson Masonic Lodge #70 F&AM meets at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at 200 E. Rancho Road. Business meeting is held on the second Tuesday preceded at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served for members, families and guests followed by an educational presentation.

Senior Circle news

The Payson Regional Medical Center Senior Circle invites residents to its Lunch and Learn program at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday. Aug. 22. The program will be “Managing Your Medical Bills” with Shelly Thompson, director of Patient Financial Services at Payson Regional Medical Center. She will help participants understand how the insurance companies determine what they will pay and what is the patient’s responsibility will be after a procedure.

NARFE meeting

The Mogollon Chapter 1235 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will hold its monthly no-host luncheon and meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 22 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m.

Meetings are held at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. This month, the speaker will be Jan Parsons from Senior Circle.

Girl Scout registration

Calling all girls ages five to 17 who are current Girl Scouts or would like to join a troop in the Payson area — registration will take place Wednesday, Aug. 22, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Scoops Ice Cream store next to the Sawmill Theatres.

Nar-Anon is a 12-step program designed to help relatives and friends of addicts recover from the effects of living with an addicted relative or friend.

In Payson, the group meets from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday at 408 W. Main St., #11 (around the back of the building).

TOPS Chapter 373 meets at Shilow Christian Fellowship Hall, 502 E. Rancho Road every Thursday. Weigh-in starts at 7:20 a.m., with the meeting at 8:30 a.m.

Payson Tea Party

The Payson Tea Party meets every Thursday night (except holidays) at Tiny’s Family Restaurant, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There are great speakers and/or great interaction each week on local, state and federal issues. All are welcome. Call (928) 468-1131 for more information.

Christ-Centered Recovery

Christ-Centered Recovery group meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at Calvary Chapel Payson, 1103 N. Beeline Highway.

The group uses a faith-based discipleship program called One Step to Freedom. The purpose is more than to merely free dependent persons from their dependency on drugs, alcohol, or other substances, including overeating or gambling; it is also designed to bring people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. This is done by breaking down the strongholds that have kept members chained to an unproductive and destructive lifestyle. Childcare is provided.

Genealogy library open

The Northern Gila County Genealogical Library will reopen at 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24. The Genealogy Library will be open Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. If these hours are not convenient for those doing genealogy research, please call (928) 474-2139 and leave a message, or e-mail and a librarian will set up an appointment.

The public is always welcomed at the library to do genealogy research.
