This year, Payson Community Kids will benefit from the toys gathered at the Tamales for Toys event put on by the Payson Fire Department.

Outside Gerardo’s Firewood Café, Lori Mills, the Executive Director steadily wrapped toys as good Samaritans continued to drop more off.

“Oh my gosh,” said Mills, “Some people just brought tons of toys and didn’t even want to eat.”

Each year, the firefighters and restaurants and businesses from around Rim Country pitch in to cook and roll up hundreds of tamales for people to either buy or donate a toy.

The line for food was consistent up until the 2:00 p.m. closing.

Mills said the Payson Community Kids location would host a toy-wrapping party on Mon., Dec. 3 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and again from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at 409 South Tonto Street. For questions, please call Pearla at 928-951-3653.
