Eight students from the Payson High School DECA chapter journeyed to Seattle, Wash. recently to attend the DECA Western Region Leadership Conference.

Students attending included Eric Vohs, Tanner Hintze, Nick McMullen, Madison Flake, Shayna Neal, Hayli Egbert, Kayla Percell and Priya Bhakta.

After a three-hour flight from Phoenix to Seattle, students began touring the area beginning with the Gates Foundation Visitor Center. Students then attended the opening session of the conference.

The workshops for the conference included dressing professionally, social media, hospitality, research events and entrepreneurship. Then competitions began, with each student design a solution to a simulated business challenge.

After the competition, students visited the 1962 World’s Fair Seattle Space Needle, which wowed students, advisers and chaperones alike.

Students also explored downtown Seattle and Pike’s Place — the ocean side market.
